MTO UPDATE ... to Town & Region

MTO UPDATE

The VRA is now pleased to confirm that the Ministry of Transportation has formally requested the Town of Caledon reserve specific lands and freeze them from development. The lands in question are being considered as alternative route options to connect the 410 to the future GTA West Corridor. The MTO made two presentations: one each to the Town of Caledon and the Region of Peel. A great overview on the topic is provided in the MTO materials used for the presentation to the Town (available below).

IF YOU WOULD LIKE a better understanding of the VRA stance on the 410 topic, we encourage you to look at….

Be advised that the existing 410 remains an option, but it is encouraging to see new options are now being added to the equation for the next portion of the GTA West Corridor EA (Environmental Assessment) process.

 PLAZA UPDATE

It remains to be seen on how these MTO announcements will impact the plaza topic or the ongoing OMB (Ontario Municipal Board) hearing the VRA is undertaking on behalf of the community, based on the Plaza Survey results as well as safety and traffic concerns.

The plaza lands behind our library are within the study area lands that the MTO has requested be frozen, however the Town of Caledon has passed a motion to NOT support the MTO in the freezing of ANY of the route option lands.

At time of posting, the OMB has not yet made a ruling on the March 29th and 30th 2012 pre-hearing on the plaza topic.

As new information is available, it will be posted on this website and the community will be prompted by a message on the community sign board.

 Sincerely,

Rob Harrison,

Director, VRA
